Experience the very best of Mid Ulster
Our unspoilt landscapes create the perfect conditions for such an array of activities that there’s almost limitless possibilities of fun things to do in Mid Ulster. The magnificent Sperrin Mountains and the ancient woodlands of their foothills are ideal locations for stargazing, but also make perfect terrain for walking, cycling and more outdoor activities. Our landscapes house a wealth of natural and archaeological riches, and they inspire great art.
Follow Seamus Heaney’s trail
Seamus Heaney’s roots were in the Bellaghy area and many of his poems are equally rooted in these places. Throughout his career, he regularly drew upon the loughs, rivers and bogs he visited in his formative years. Now it’s time to write your own Mid Ulster story. Let’s find some amazing things for you to do while you’re here.
Put one foot in the past
Stand in the archaeological footprint of our long history. Walk among the Bronze Age structures of Beaghmore Stone Circles which date back over 3500 years or follow in the footsteps of dynastic leaders at Hill of The O'Neill or the royal centre of power in the 11th Century, Tullaghoge Fort. Step back in time at US Grants Homestead, the ancestral homestead of Ulysses S. Grant the 18th President of the United States of America.
Look up in wonder
Explore outer space from OM Dark Sky Park and Observatory, the world’s 78th International Dark Sky Park (and Northern Ireland’s first). Here you can really see the stars, planets, galaxies and everything else the unspoilt night sky wants to reveal to you. A visitor experience that is truly 'out of this world'. You'll never look at the sky in same way again.
Get active
Enjoy walking, cycling, mountain biking, water sports and activities, horse riding and other outdoor adventures that make the most of our natural attributes: the Sperrin Mountains, Lough Neagh and its waterways, and miles of undulating rural landscape. Visit Ballyronan Marina as your starting point for many water sports and other things to do on Lough Neagh. Continue the exertion with a round of golf at the pristine Moyola Park Golf Club or 2011 Open Championship winner Darren Clarke’s home course in Dungannon.
Feel the adrenaline rush
Get your pulse racing at one of our exhilarating outdoor adventure centres at Todds Leap Activity Centre near Dungannon or The Jungle NI just outside the village of Moneymore. Choose from high-octane activities including blindfold driving, paintballing, zorbing, laser tag, raft-building, ziplines, climbing, giant slides and many more. Slip, slide and splash as much as you like at Splash NI Water Park, from mega-slides to giant inflatables - it promises to be great fun! It's time to start planning your action-packed adventures in Mid Ulster.
