St John's Church Tour EHOD 2024

About

St John's Church of Ireland, Fivemiletown will open for facilitated tours which will explain the history of the building. The tour will include reference to a previous building on the site prior to building the current church in 1736. Visitors will be treated to reflections on the cost of removing the old church prior to 1736, where the stone to build the church was sourced and how the building has been maintained and expanded since.

The contents of the church include historical stained glass windows such as the Good Shepherd window in the Chancel. Those visiting will also have an opportunity to view internal displays such as a hand carved wooden picture depicting the Lord's prayer. The guided tour will share information relating to the history of the church building and parish association with the Belmore and Blessingbourne estates. This will include the commemorative Plaque for Major General Hugh Maude de Fellenburg Montgomery.
