Take a journey through time and space
Discover a visitor experience that’s out of this world when you visit OM Dark Sky Park and Observatory. Leave the bright lights and busy roads behind and venture deep into the Sperrin Mountains. Star hop across the universe on a daily guided tours. OM's interactive exhibition links the landscape with the astronomical and archaeological heritage of the Sperrins, featuring holographic installations and virtual reality headsets. Davagh Forest is the world’s 78th International Dark Sky Park (and Northern Ireland’s first), you can see stars, planets, galaxies and everything else the unspoilt night sky wants to reveal to you. You'll never look at the sky the same way again.
Then step outside on to the OM Solar walk. Beginning at the OM observatory building, the further you walk along the trail, the further you travel into the galaxy! The 3.4km walk links the observed solar system in the sky with the astronomical solar and lunar alignments at Beaghmore Stone Circles. Discover the ancient monuments at Beaghmore Stone Circles, explore planets in the solar system using the OM Solar Search app and get ready to take off on your next adventure!
As the light starts to fade take a seat on the stone-built viewing terrace, and let the headsets bring to life the dramatic scenes projected on to the side of the building. The OM Odyssey Outdoor Film will speed you into space to experience sights and sounds that will captivate you. This is a film which is experienced, rather than simply watched. You just have to see it for yourself.
Embrace the crisp clear days of autumn
Discover breathtaking landscapes and incredible displays of colour in our forest parks and country estates. Explore the woodland expanses of Davagh, Moydamlaght and Drum Manor forest parks, follow pathways that run alongside our loughs, rivers and canals, or unwind in the grounds of Mid Ulster’s parks and country estates. Woodland trails, flat boardwalks and miles of quiet country lanes, plus a wide range of wildlife, including red squirrels, pine marten and deer, along the way.
There’s incredible variety to be found within our walking routes. Whatever you want or need from your walk; whoever is coming with you; and no matter how long you want to walk for, you can get out and about in Mid Ulster this autumn.
