Substantial ruins of an English style house built by Sir Toby Caulfield in 1619, possibly on or close to an earlier O'Donnelly's fort. The castle was captured and burned by Patrick Modder O’Donnelly during widespread conflict in Ulster in 1641. After the Restoration of Charles II in 1660, the castle was altered and temporarily reoccupied by the Caulfield family before being abandoned by 1700. The castle is considered to be the best surviving example in Ireland of an early 17th century English-style building of U-shaped plan. The Caulfield arms appear over the Gatehouse.
