About

Over the years, Friels has been used as a Doctor’s Surgery, Post Office, Hotel and Coaching Inn.  
Dr Mooney set up a Soup Kitchen here during the Great Famine in the 1840’s and the original Famine Pot is on display.   
Learn about Dr Mooney and the famine and the Soup kitchen, taste nettle famine soup and see the original famine pot.   
Famine mural.  
Immerse yourself in the history and atmosphere of Friels, 5th generation traditional pub.  
Hear local folklore about poet, traveller and adventurer Mick McAtamney and see his 100 year old hand carved walking stick.
