About

The Old Thatch Inn, part of the Taste Mid Ulster Food Trail, is a family run business, nestled in the heart of Castledawson next door to the birth place of renowned poet Seamus Heaney. We are one of the oldest pubs in Northern Ireland, established in 1832. Our old stone walls and open turf fire gives a warm welcome to anyone who steps through our red door.

Enjoy a delicious meal in our traditional surroundings, which includes our very popular Poet’s corner as the walls are draped with beautiful poetry.

Our Taste Mid Ulster Signature Dish

Thatch Sandwich

Chicken and Steak pieces, sauteed with onion and mushroom. Cooked in our homemade peppercorn sauce, served on top of crusty garlic ciabatta bread and topped with tobacco onions.

Local suppliers - We use all local produce and suppliers. Our meat is from McAtamneys Butchers, Magherafelt and our fruit and vegetables are supplied by a family run business, Mill Road Limavady.

______________________________

We offer entertainment every weekend, and traditional sessions monthly from local talented artists. Our front bar is the true definition of an old
traditional bar, from its surroundings to the open hatch door.

Our function room was built in 2012 to accommodate the vast number of people coming through the doors. With this new addition we can cater for
all occasions.
