A giant welcome awaits in the heart of Northern Ireland!
It's time to unwind
Time moves a bit differently here, taking you to places you didn’t expect to go. Like the outer reaches of the solar system. Or the depths of Lough Neagh, where eels burrow and swim. To the peak of a mountain and down to the forests and emerald-green valleys below (by foot or on bike - it just depends how quickly you want to travel).
Journey to a different time or place, like a Bronze Age settlement at Beaghmore Stone Circles, an ancient stronghold of a warring clan at Tullaghoge Fort or stand in the footsteps of history at Hill of The O'Neill. Unwind time and experience Mid Ulster.
Take a journey through time and space
People have been spending their time here for thousands of years. You can see this for yourself because they’ve left behind forts, tombs, stone circles and structures for you to explore. What brought them here? Probably many of the things you’ll enjoy when you visit.
Archaeological evidence points to ancient rituals relating to astronomy. You’ll be able to gaze into the very same starry night sky at the OM Dark Sky Park and Observatory. We know our ancestors fished, farmed and relaxed around Lough Neagh, and that’s no different today. We know the Sperrin Mountains stood watch over it all in silent magnificence, as they continue to do, offering beauty and the promise of escape.
Times change, but the pace of change is gentle. Explore places that link the landscape and the literature of Seamus Heaney. Heaney’s roots were in the Bellaghy area and many of his poems are equally rooted here. Many places remain unchanged since the time Heaney wrote about them. Now you can see them for yourself through the poet’s eyes, creating memories that will make them important to you.
Unwind at your own pace!
Speed things up with some high-octane outdoor adventure. Mid Ulster is home to exhilarating outdoor activity centres, Ireland’s largest inflatable water park, two Phil Saxena-designed mountain bike trails and plenty of other ways to get your pulse racing during your time here.
It’s time to unwind, in your own way and experience Mid Ulster for yourself.
