Altan in concert

About

Celebrated as one of the finest traditional Irish groups in the world, Altan has been at the forefront of Irish traditional music for over four decades, bringing the rich musical heritage of Donegal to audiences across generations. Led by acclaimed fiddle player and singer Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, the band is renowned for its electrifying musicianship, lyrical sensitivity and deep connection to song and place.

Their latest album, Donegal (2024), has been widely praised for its vibrant and masterful performances, reaffirming Altan's status as standard-bearers of the tradition. Joined by long-standing members Ciaran Curran, Dáithí Sproule and Martin Tourish, alongside newest member Clare Friel, Altan continues to honour the musical legacy of northwest Ireland while renewing it for contemporary audiences — a fitting return to the Helicon stage.
