Sinéad Morrissey In Conversation with Jan Carson

About

Sinéad Morrissey was the first poet to read in The Helicon, alongside Michael Longley, when HomePlace opened its doors ten years ago. We are thrilled to welcome Sinéad's return. For this long-awaited visit, the topic for discussion will be her literary career and her new memoir Among Communists, published by Carcanet in March 2026.
Sinéad Morrissey is the author of six collections and selected poems Found Architecture, all published by Carcanet, and the recipient of the T.S. Eliot Prize, the Forward Prize and E M Forster Award.
In 2020 Sinéad was named the European Poet of Freedom by the City of Gdańsk, Poland and in 2024 she was the recipient of the Seamus Heaney Award (Japan). She has served as Belfast Poet Laureate and in 2019 was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. She is Professor of Creative Writing at Newcastle University and Director of the Newcastle Centre for the Literary Arts.
