About

There has long been a close link between Irish poetry and the broadcasting industry. Seamus Heaney, Paul Muldoon, Eavan Boland and Michael Longley all shared close ties with the BBC and RTÉ, creating a fascinating dynamic between the written and the broadcast word.

For this event, Alex Alonso, a Research Fellow at the University of Huddersfield, will give a short talk detailing radio's complex relationship with modern Irish writing, and the radio studio itself as a space for creative experiment, rivalry and collaboration between artists on and off the air. He will then be joined by journalist Olivia O'Leary, presenter of The Poetry Programme on RTÉ One and Ruth McKee, editor of Books Ireland and host of the podcast Burning Books to discuss the dissemination of poetry from radio broadcast to podcast.
