The Wee School Cottage

About

The Cottage lies in a peaceful area on the Cavanreagh Road. Surrounded by friendly neighbours and green fields as well as stunning picturesque views.

St Anne's Church is one of them. The Church was built in 1843 and among many, Rev. King kept a preachers book which not only gave account of happenings in St. Anne`s but small pieces of information about everyday life in the area. Some of these writings can be found in Rev. Thomas R McKnight`s book "The Little Church in the Valley".

This pretty little church is rarely used nowadays, except on special occasions where people from far and wide travel for the special service.

We are so lucky to have the Moyola River running behind the Cottage. The Moyola stretches for approximately 27 miles from the Sperrin Mountains to Lough Neagh. The foot stick behind the Cottage was used many years ago as a pad through to the main road handy for the school children and some still use it today.

Without a doubt the focal point on the Cavanreagh Road is the Old Church of Ballinascreen. Exactly when the church was built, we don't know, but legend has it that it was built by St. Patrick. The ruins are still there and are only a few yards from your accommodation. The Wee School Cottage is ideal for families, romantic breaks or groups. Just a 10 minute drive to the village of Draperstown, 20 minutes to Cookstown and 1 hour from Belfast.
