About

Frank Cottrell-Boyce is an award-winning children's author and writer for stage and screen. Millions, his debut children's novel, won the Carnegie Medal and was made into a film by Danny Boyle with whom he co-devised the Opening Ceremony for the London 2012 Olympics. Frank also devised The Return of Colmcille, a highlight of Derry's UK City of Culture programme in 2013.

His newest novel, The Blockbusters, was published in May 2025 while his previous titles – Cosmic, Framed, The Astounding Broccoli Boy, Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth, Runaway Robot, Noah's Gold and The Wonder Brothers – have been shortlisted for a multitude of prizes.
Frank has also written three hugely popular sequels to Ian Fleming's Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
A highly successful screenwriter, he has written for Coronation Street, Brookside and Doctor Who, while his screenplays Forget About Me, Butterfly Kiss, Welcome to Sarajevo, The Claim, 24 Hour Party People and Code 46 have been directed by filmmaker Michael Winterbottom.
